Parking & Practicalities

Handy car parks, public toilets and bus stops at either end of the trail and a few in between.

Plan well, travel kindly

  • ◆ Check bus times before travelling — rural services run less often at weekends and in winter.
  • ◆ Some lanes have no pavements; walk in single file and step in where it is safe.
  • ◆ Rights of way may be muddy or flooded in winter — wear proper footwear and carry an OS Explorer map.
  • ◆ Keep dogs under close control near livestock, beavers, ground-nesting birds and sensitive heathland.
  • ◆ Don't rely on phone signal in all upper-valley sections — download maps offline before you set out.
  • ◆ Use OS Explorer maps for route planning rather than only road apps.
  • ◆ Not all suggested stops are open every day — check directly before travelling.
  • ◆ Public toilets and car parks may have seasonal changes in opening hours.
  • ◆ Check tide, weather and river conditions before lower-valley or estuary walks.
