Summer Meadows along the Otter

Through high summer the middle and lower valley footpaths are at their gentlest: cropped meadows, river-bank flowers, dragonflies over the slow pools and house martins working the air above the water.

Dusk between Otterton and the estuary is the most reliable time to listen for the slap of a beaver's tail. Walk in slowly, sit still on the bank, and please keep dogs on a lead in the lower valley.
